I think a piece about the heart is due seeing as Valentine’s Day has just passed us. Isn’t the heart a fascinating organ. I mean thinking about it really, it’s just sat there inside you faithfully pumping blood for you, your entire life. Every other organ takes a break every once in a while, even our brains when we go to sleep, but our hearts are constantly working at it. And then one day when they decide they’ve had enough, that’s it…we’re gone! Using an average of 80 beats per minute, everyday your heart beats approximately 115,200 (0ne-hundred and fifteen thousand two-hundred) times! That’s about 42,048,000 (forty-two-million and forty-eight-thousand) times per year! And then multiply that number by your age and you’ll find out approximately how many times your heart has beat for you ever since you were born!

Considering that there’s approximately 7.5 billion people living in the world right now, there must be 7.5 billion hearts all pumping, remaining loyal to their person. So in any given second the total number of heartbeats world wide is 10,000,000,000 (ten-billion)! Each time your heart beats it pumps about 0.07 litres of blood…so in this very second 700,000,000 (seven-hundred-million) litres of blood have been swished around the world! That’s enough to fill 8,750,000 (eight-million, seven-hundred and fifty thousand) bath tubs! These numbers are so huge that they’re completely unimaginable! Here’s a weird thought…there are billions of people in the world that you don’t even know exist, but you are connecting with them with your synchronised heartbeats…all your hearts are rhythmically beating together, following the same pattern to circulate your blood and keep you alive! That’s incredible!

There’s no doubt about it, we definitely owe our hearts a lot! So what can you do to pay your heart back for its loyalty? It’s actually a lot easier than it seems, luckily your heart is quite easily pleased.
