Please only answer the poll below if you are the parent of an Autistic child.

As part of my EPQ I decided to investigate the possibility of a link between Autism and Synaesthesia. I’m at the stage of gathering some primary evidence for my report so I’d be very grateful if you could share your opinion.

Please could you answer as to whether your child has experienced any sensory symptoms. This could include:

  • Certain textures causing discomfort
  • Finding some flavours and foods too strong and overpowering
  • Touch being uncomfortable or painful
  • Noise being magnified or sounds becoming disported and muddled
  • Difficulty cutting background noise out

Thank you

In college we were all asked to prepare a presentation on any topic which interests us. Most people just picked a disease and listed the symptoms and treatments for it, but I didn’t want to do that. I had a think about something which I have genuinely been excited about in the past. I tend to research and read up on different topics which are of intrigue to me a lot, so before long the topic of Synaesthesia came to mind. I can’t quite remember exactly how I first came across this condition, but it was through one of my internet browses. I was completely and utterly fascinated by this when I first heard of it, I told a lot of people, friends, family, about this…it is truly intriguing. So, upon remembering about it, you can imagine my excitement to share this knowledge during my presentation. And that is what I decided to do!

I created a baseline of bullet points on a slideshow but I’ve left a lot of it for me just to talk about, because there’s a lot of really interesting information and I don’t want to be filling endless slides of tedious reading. So, here’s my presentation…a lot of the research hasn’t been bulleted on here, so it won’t seem as amazing as it really is when you read it…
