Here’s a post I write answering this very question: 5 Things to do on Your Gap Year to Boost Your Medical School Application.
If you are re-applying for Medicine the most important thing is to make sure you identify which specific parts of your application need improving. You also need to make sure you’re volunteering, learning new things or doing something to keep yourself occupied during that gap year as that time is something you’ll be expected to account for. The post I’ve linked above goes in to it in a lot more detail.
