Exploring MedicineWork Experience

#AskAMedStudent: How did starting a blog help you as an aspiring medic?

Work Experience

#AskAMedStudent: I’m starting year 13 in September and applying to medicine but all of my work experience has been cancelled due to Covid-19. I have three days of hospital experience planned for September and have done some volunteering in school but that’s it – am I going to get rejected by everyone I apply to?

Work Experience

#AskAMedStudent: I am a year 12 student & I want to apply for medicine. I started a volunteering placement at the start of February this year at a care home but no longer attend due to the pandemic. I also have no hospital work experience so I am really worried about not having a sustained placement somewhere or much work experience for my application. Do you have any advice on what I can do? I am currently completing the virtual work experience programme that you recommended.

Work Experience

#AskAMedStudent: Hi! I really want to go to Manchester medical school, and I know they are keen on hands on experience. I have done work experience in a primary school + nursery, and spent a week in the womens centre of my local hospital, mainly on the gynaecology ward. I feel I learnt so much from this experience, but I have been struggling for two years now to get volunteering in my area, and I’m worried this won’t be enough. How can I demonstrate what I’ve learnt about being a doctor if I don’t fit the criteria of hands on care?
